  • By providing positive opportunities that people have positive futures regardless of their past experiences and reputations
  • Positive and valued community presence and participation.
  • Each person should receive a person specific assessment
  • Each person should receive a person specific positive behaviour support plan
  • Whilst professionals/therapists have a valued role and that thorough and comprehensive assessment may be required that the interventions/actions of staff are set out in clearly understandable expectations and easy to use guidelines
  • Positive opportunities includes the easily understandable translation of various key service philosophies into daily experiences and quality of life outcomes
  • People deserve a high quality of life
  • The communication of our needs is of paramount interest to individuality and the meeting of these needs’ results in a high quality of life in our community
  • Each person has the ability to develop and grow
  • Employment for each individual
  • People need to express their thoughts and feelings and sometimes this presents challenges to services
  • Each person has a right to receive high quality primary medical health care
  • People respond positively to kindness and compassion
  • Staff have a right to receive regular and appropriate training
  • Staff need to have an active and participatory contribution towards the goals, setting of standards of care and evaluation of services that HQL provide
  • Staff have a right to receive support at any time they feel they need it
  • Staff have a right to receive supervision
  • People with learning disabilities /Autistic spectrum disorders and who sometimes present with severely challenging behaviours and their carers are most vulnerable and most often experience abuse
  • Abuse can and does occur, even in the best of organisations and that a culture of openness, honesty, transparency, and acceptance of failure is required to efficiently and effectively protect those from abuse
  • Medication is not required for affect and control of challenging behaviour
  • Positive alternatives to the use of punishment are more effective
  • Punishment systems should not be used
  • We are all able to make mistakes and our acceptance, openness and transparency of Fallible Human Beings’ is healthy
  • HQL’s service standards in addition to national care standards are critical in complementing towards the assessment and evaluation of our performances and consequent high quality of life outcomes.
